Captains log: Digital Learning date 3-23-2020

I hope you all are adjusting to our new normal.  With the nicer weather, it seemed much more bearable to be home all day long!  We have a new week ahead of us and new things to study and learn.  We will be doing a choice board for reading this week and learning more about Memoirs in writing.  In Math we will be converting units of measurement (US this week and metric next week).  In Science we will continue to work with physical and chemical changes.  I have a few activities to show you in our meetings this week.  Hopefully you will be able to see them.

Are you ready to start!!  Let's do this!!

The meeting code for this week's meetings is: 922-656-959

Reading: (30 minutes)

This week we are going to have some free choice reading.  I will set up another section in our flip grid for you to post what you are reading.  Give us a little summary of the book and read it for 30 minutes.  After you read the book, Choose an activity from the choice board below.  When you have completed the activity, put it in the class notebook so that I can check it.  😊

Writing: (20 min)

You will use most of your writing time to complete the choice board activity on the book you are reading.  I will also have a mini lesson on Memoirs during our meeting at 11:00 today.

Math: (30 min)

In Khan Academy, you will be working on U.S. customary units of measurement this week.  Each day there will be a video or two and problems to solve.  If you do not like the score on the problems, go back and re do the problems.  If  you want to re-watch the videos first, please do.  If you feel that you need more assistance from me, let me know, and I will put together a small group to work with me on understanding this concept.
The IXL today is on quads and polygons. IXL.5.BB.8, 9, and 10.  We will keep circling around to this as we will need to know it for volume in a few weeks.

Science: (20 min)

We are doing the brain check for the lesson we read last week.  Please post the answers in the science section of the class notebook. The brain check will be in there as well.

Morning Work/Wordly Wise: (20 min)

Today is WW #14 D.  Don't forget to keep current on the morning work.  Posted below are the answers from last week.

I think that you may actually be able to get on using the same code as the two voice poem. Try both and see what works best.

  3. Yes. There are two more metaphors, the river and the blanket, that you still need to answer the questions for. Look in the Content Library, 2-19-20, Reading for all of the questions on the Metaphors. You will see the ones you completed and the the ones you still should continue to work on.
